Zagora Desert 2 Days

The first day of this Zagora Desert excursion begins in Marrakech: our Spanish-speaking driver/guide will pick you up at your hotel or at an agreed meeting point and set off toward the far south of the country, in the direction of Ouarzazate. To get there, we will cross the Atlas Mountain range via the Tizi n'Tichka pass, situated approximately 2,200 metres above sea level. Both on the ascent and the descent, the winding road will take us past small mountain villages and treat us to truly spectacular panoramic views.

Once we pass this imposing natural barrier, we will enter the territory that has been home to the Berber people since time immemorial. Leaving Ouarzazate behind known as the 'Gateway to the Desert’, we will travel through the Draa Valley, considered the largest palm grove in all of Africa: 150 km of lush greenery to brighten our journey, dotted with striking kasbahs and modest orchards tended by local villagers.

In the afternoon, our route will bring us to Zagora, which lends its name to this stretch of desert. From here, we will head toward our traditional Berber camp, set in the heart of the desert and we will do so in the most fitting way possible: riding at top majestic dromedaries, always accompanied by their experienced handlers. Once at the camp, you will witness a breathtaking sunset, enjoy dinner, and rest for the night with the brilliance of a star-filled sky still glowing in your memory.

On the second day of this Zagora Desert excursion, the sandy landscape will greet you with a moving 'good morning' as the first rays of sunlight break through, making the included breakfast feel even more special. We will leave the camp once again on dromedary-back, before setting off on the return journey through the Draa Valley toward Ouarzazate, where we will stop for photos at Taourirt Kasbah. A few kilometres past Ouarzazate, we will reach the Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where we will take the time needed to explore this iconic, cinematic fortress. Shortly after, we will do the same at the Kasbah of Telouet (entrance fees are optional at both sites).

Back in the vehicle, we will cover the final 130 km back to Marrakech, crossing the Atlas Mountains once more. Upon arrival in the city — at the airport or any other agreed location — our services will come to a close, with the hope of having given you the finest experience possible.
